- Think OUTSIDE of the closet. While about 60% of the clothes consigned sell, 95% of the toys, books, games, videos, puzzles, equipment, & furniture sell!
- Bring boys and girls clothes up through children's size 16. (This does not include junior sizes.)
- Bring only season-specific clothes for each sale:
Spring Sale - shirts, shorts, summer dresses, lightweight long sleeve shirts and long pants, summer jammies, sweatshirts, lightweight jackets/fleece, and swimsuits, etc.
Fall Sale - heavier weight long sleeve shirts and long pants, short sleeve shirts (great for layering), sweatshirts, sweaters, long underwear, warm jammies, robes, swimsuits, (swim lessons occur year-round), fleece, jackets, snow pants/suits, and Halloween/holiday outfits.
- Sets (under size 6) tend to sell better than seperate items, so match things up if you can.
- The appearance of your items will do much to help them sell. Clothes that are clean, smell fresh, and are pressed, look newer and generally sell better. Spend a little extra time getting your items ready! Popping your wrinkled clothes in the dryer with a dryer sheet works wonders on those "packed in the box" wrinkles. Button up shirts, zip up zippers, etc. Take pride in your belongings...it will show and sell!
- Please help us maintain our high standards by checking through your items before bringing them in to drop-off. Inspect your clothes for stains, tears, missing buttons, broken zippers, etc. in GOOD light. (Typically, basement and garage lighting are not adequate.) Go through your items and select out clothes that are worn, pilly, faded, frumpy, and/or just plain old. Contemporary, stylish, newer items sell the best.)
- 3x5 index cards, either white or colored, for tags are a must! (No exceptions!) Use a numbered size (e.g. 6 MOs, 2T, 6/7), not S, M, L. Use brand names in your descriptions. Identify items by color or design.
- Price your items to sell! Use $1.00 increments only. (no 25¢ or 50¢ etc.) Price items about 1/4 to 1/3 of the original price, depending on brand and condition. Ask yourself, "What would I pay for this item at a consignment store/sale?"
- Use medium-size safety pins when attaching tags. (Tiny gold pins and straight pins are not acceptable.)
- Shoes, including the soles, must be very clean, without scuff marks, and in first-rate condition. Attach shoes securely together with twist ties, safety pins, or string, and avoid zip-lock bags. This way, shoes will be easier to inspect and display.
- Continue using zip-lock bags for packaging infant T-shirts, onesies, sleepers, underwear, etc. Place three or more like items (same style, same size) together in a zip-lock bag for one price.
- Equipment and toys must be clean, in exceptional condition, and with all parts intact. Toys which require batteries must include them. Baby furniture, equipment, and toys should have all parts and any small pieces secured in a zip-lock bag, clearly labeled and attached to the main piece. Clear packing tape is great for securing bags so small hands can't reach in and items aren't lost.
- Advanced Bar Coding will save time at drop-off. When you are tagging your items, keep a tally of how many items you have at each price, seperated by discount/no discount. Then, simply email or call us with this information and we will print up your bar code labels and send them to you. Example: 2 @ $2, 12 @ $3, 6 @ $4 ND. You can affix the labels to your cards at home. Then, when you come to the Shrine for drop-off, we will simply inspect your items and place them in their appropriate place!
- Volunteer during the sale and have a rip-roaring time (and earn fabulous perks!)
- When buying items, we take Visa, MasterCard, debit cards, cash or personal checks with a local phone number. There is a $30 fee for any returned checks. (Please don't bounce any!)
- Pass the word (and flyers) to everyone and anyone. A bigger sale is good for all of us!
